Like many modern homes this property was built and furnished from scratch but the end result still left the owners feeling that the space was visually cold and too grey. My sweet client had already bought most of the furniture however so the changes needed to try add to what they had as far as possible. I retained the large premium sectional couch and the glass top of the 3m dining table as well as the custom curtains. Everything else however was added from lighting to wallpaper, to the custom built in TV unit. The design for this space was inspired by the existing charcoal grey kitchen. Though beautiful it was the only moody element in the open plan space making the one half of the house feel disconnected from the other. To fix the problem I repeated this shade of grey in accessories like scatter cushions, planter pots and vases as well as in the colour choice for the TV unit which helped to create balance and a more cohesive story in the room. I also used marble with a grey fleck in the coffee table, entrance lamps and server lamps to further emphasize the hue throughout the interior. A special aspect of this project was incorporating two pieces which brought life and movement into the space- a coffee table and dining table base both in an organic wave shape. This addition broke up the straight modern lines and added contrast and a good tension into the flow of the room.
